Project Rhodes Tower Wire Sawing
Efficient Elevator Motor Removal with Wire Sawing in Columbus, Ohio
Sometimes things are built with the idea that they will never have to be replaced.
ThyssenKrupp Elevator was tasked with the replacement and upgrade of Rhodes Tower elevators in Columbus, Ohio.
As, can be seen from the picture the elevator motors are large, heavy and awkward and on the 44th floor in the elevator room. They are so heavy that they need to be cut in half to be removed for replacement. They asked OCSD to help bisect the motors in the most efficient way possible.
Based on the location of the cut, wire sawing is the safest and easiest way to accomplish this. This process can cut all kinds of metals not just concrete. It is also great for awkwardly large objects as well.
